Good Faith Estimate
Right to Receive a Good Faith Estimate of Expected Charges
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
- You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
- Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
- If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
- Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
How This Works at Wausau Weight Loss
If you are uninsured, or if you choose not to use your health insurance for your care, we will give you a written Good Faith Estimate of the expected charges for the services we recommend. Your estimate will list the items and services you can reasonably expect to receive, along with the expected cost of each.
When you will receive your estimate
- If your service is scheduled at least 3 business days in advance: you will receive your estimate within 1 business day of scheduling.
- If your service is scheduled at least 10 business days in advance: you will receive your estimate within 3 business days of scheduling.
- If you ask for an estimate before scheduling: you will receive it within 3 business days of your request.
Things to keep in mind
- A Good Faith Estimate is an estimate, not a contract. You are not required to receive the services listed.
- Your estimate is based on the information available at the time it is prepared. If your treatment plan changes, we will provide an updated estimate.
- Your estimate does not include charges for unexpected items or services that may arise during treatment, or services provided by other facilities or providers unless listed.
